Jyothirmayi is an Indian actress. She was at first a serial artist then got introduced to Indian films through the film savanna. She had acted in various films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English. She then paired up with great actors of Malayalam including Mohanlal and Mammootty. She also got offers opposite superstars Sathyaraj, Vijaykanth etc.Jyothirmayi got married to Nishanth, a young software engineer.
Career
She was a serial artist at first. Indraneelam is one of her famous serials.Jyothirmayi began as an anchor on the small screen and then took to acting on the small screen itself. She began from the small screen, hosting programmes like Valkannadi and
acting in TV serials. She then did a couple of rather insignificant roles on the big screen, in the Rajeev Anchal-directed Pilots and the Sibi.It was then that the malayalam film Meesha Madhavan happened. one major draw in the film was the hit song "Chingamaasam vannuchernaal...". Everybody noticed the energetic performance of Jyothirmayi who danced along with Dileep in the song. That was the turning point in Jyothirmayi's career. In her very next film Jyothirmayi was cast as the leading lady. The film Bhavum fetched her the jury's special mention at the National Awards. Then came a flurry of films: Ente Veedu Appoontem, Annyar, Pattalam, Kalyaanaraman, Hariharan Pillai Happiyaanu, Kathavasheshan etc.She chooses the roles based on the merit of the characters, judging them from an actor's perspective. She judges the character's merit on the basis of the script. And she never care whether it is the heroine or not. She is more interested in the potential or scope of the character.
Jyothirmayi tied the knot with Nishanth, a young software engineer. Everyone thought that it would be the end of her acting career, as was usually the case with young heroines. But for Jyothirmayi, things were different.Generally, an actress doesn't get married when she is in the peak of her career but Jyothirmayee is different. Many in Tamil cinema, including the directors and actors are of the opinion that audience accepts only unmarried actresses as heroines but Jyothirmayee has proved them wrong.Yes, she got married when her career in Malayalam was at the peak yet she has been doing well till date, with heroine roles coming in.She came to Tamil film industry only after my marriage.Jyothirmayi was back again, doing an item number in a Tamil film - Ithaya Thirudan. The V.K. Prakash-directed Malayalam film Moonamathoraal too had her playing a central character.

Interview with Jyothirmayi.
After acting in the role, would you continue to act in glamorous roles too?
I don't intend to develop such an image. That's the reason why I'm trying my best to maintain a flexible image.
An actress must be capable enough to act in any role given to her. I know what my limits are and I don't intend to break those barriers.
There are talks that you are hesitant to act with senior heroes in Tamil...
Says who? In my first Tamil film, I appeared in an item number. In the second film, I was Sundar C's heroine.
I had recently completed two films, 'Sabari' with Vijayakanth and 'Naan Avan Illai' with Jeevan. If the story and my role are good, I really don't mind who the hero is.
You were one of the five heroines in 'Naan Avan Illai'. Were there any fights among heroines on the sets?
The film gave equal importance to all the five heroines. We had acted together in only one song sequence. You can act well only if there is a healthy competition.
How far is your husband helping you with your career?
I had never tried to hide the fact that I'm married. If I'm able to concentrate on my work so well, it is only because my family helps me.
They understand that acting is important to me.
Will you continue to appear in item numbers?
It depends on the film banner and the background.
Tell us about your Hindi film 'Anubhav'.
Mine is a guest role in the film. I play the role of a tribal girl who converts to Buddhism.
The film's shooting is now on in Karnataka and Kerala.
What difference do you notice in Malayalam and Tamil film industries?
Once Malayalam films were known for their realism, but these days, in their attempts to commercialize their films, lot of drastic changes have started to happen.
Soon, there wouldn't be much difference between Tamil and Malayalam films.
In Malayalam, films are completed faster than in Tamil.
Who are your favorite stars?
If I have forgotten to mention some names here, it is not because they aren't good actors and actresses.
It is simply because I still haven't worked with them. I love the performances of Nedumudi Venu and Thilagan.
They bring something special to the roles that they play.
