Name: Navya Nair
Real Name: Dhanya Nair
Born in: 1984
Father: Rajan
Mother: Veena
Brother: Rahul
Residence: "Prasanthi", Cheppadu, Alappuzha
Debut Film: Ishtam (2002)

Navya Nair's actual name is Dhanya Nair. She was given this name "Navya" by her mother so as to be a lucky fortune to the malayalam film industry. Ler lucky number is 5, says she. A 12th student at M.S.M High secondary school, Kayamkulam. Resident of the Allepey district, place called Cheppadu. Father, Rajan is working with the Telecom Subdivision and Mother, Veena, a teacher with the M.S.M High Secondary school. Brother,Rahul is in 5th Std.

Navya Nair is a sensation which has hit Kerala. Everybody seems to be admiring her. They say that she is going to be the new Manju Warrier, the ex-super heroine, and now wife of her hero. She looks confident and has amazing screen presence.

Navya, who is hardly 19, is on the fast track to success. She has quite a few offers but is still undecided about her career moves. We hope her uncle K.Madhu, the great investigative director would help her to stay on in movies. The local media is already projecting her as the next number one heroine. For that we have to wait for no more time. She has managed to stand tall with her skill and charm. The beautiful actress who caught everyone's attention opposite Dileep in Ishtam, has done it again with him in films like Mazhathullikilukam, Kunjikoonan and Kalyanaraman. These films which have opened to a tremendous response has been classified as megahits or superhits. Even while underscoring the fact that Dileep is the reigning star of the beleagured industry, the film has shown Navya Nair has what it takes to be the next Manju Warrier of the industry.

Now with eight rollicking hits, Navya is well and truly on the way to doing that. But quite typically she brushes aside the compliment and the comparisons. 'Actually there are no comparison. Manju chechi was far too superior,' Navya points out quickly. Anyway, producers and distributors feel that in Navya they have finally foundanable actress, who is good on the eye as well as ability. Navya says ' I am doubtless happy that success has come my way quite early. But I am only too aware of the responsibilties that such accolades bring'. The caution in her is her understandable. For, she has seen too many heroines fizzle out after being hurriedly annointed the next number one in the wake of a few hits. 'There are too many imponderables involved in this,' she says of the industry. 'It is not about mere looks and ability. There is an unexplained chemistry at work here. It has to find favour with the audiences,' Navya says lucidly. Some critics say that both her success have come with Dileep, who is the hottest property now. But Dileep himself says that Navya is pretty good. 'She has a natural feel and an innate understanding of characters she does,' he has been quoted as saying.Navya is in no hurry to sign films using her new-found starlet status. 'I don't mind going slow if it helps to establish my credentials as an actress'.

Well, Navya has got the chemistry, she talked about, right with her colleagues at work as well the fans. She is also showing that she knows the physics of success very well. Now, will she make history? She was the 'Kala-thilakam' in the youth festival of Aleppey district. She has achieved so many prizes in the State youth festival also. Navya, who passed her 10th std with distinction, is not at all behind in her studies also.

Movie Reviews

Nandanam
Cast: Prithviraj, Navya, Revathi, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Jagathy Sreekumar, Innocent, Aravindan
Director: Ranjith
Producer: Siddique, Ranjith
Music: Raveendran
Lyrics: Gireesh Puthencherry

One gets a feel that hopefully Malayalam films are slowly coming back to the old footage with the new releases this year.. Nandanam is one such movie that seals that feeling.. it is a simple love story bordered on fantasy but handled really well by the scenarist turned director Ranjit.
The story revolves around young Balamani (Navya Nair) an orphan who comes to Guruvayoor to work as a servant maid in a big ‘Tharavadu’ (ancestral home) near Guruvayoor temple. All she earns for is a 'darshan' of the deity, Lord Krishna. But some how she never makes it to the temple although she could daily hear the sound of poojas, bhajans and the crowd from the temple while doing her chores.

The young girl shares her sorrows and worries with a picture of the idol kept in her room. Her employer is an old lady Unniamma (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) and besides her, three other old ladies live in the house.
Balamani has a dream of marrying a man of high stature. She feels this is what her lord has in store for her and she starts believing in her dream. Like wise, when Unniamma's only grandson Manu (Pritviraj) arrives to spend few days with his grandmother before going abroad to pursue his studies, Balamani realises he is the man of her dreams. Both of them are drawn towards each other and soon falls in love despite Balamani's reservations about their difference in status. But their happiness does not last long as Thankam (Revathy), Manu's widowed mother fixes his wedding with her friend’s daughter and it is too late when Manu confesses his love to his mother. Manu and Balamani decide to part ways not to hurt his mothers feelings. Balamani finds it really difficult to forget her dream and strives hard to hide her grief. But there is this man Unni ( Aravindan) living next door who understands her feelings for Manu and constantly assures her miracles do happen and dreams are achievable... Will Balamani's dreams come true? ....

The simple story has been deftly handled. The director takes us on an emotional journey through the mind of the young orphan girl who is in love.. her insecurities, hurt, rejection, faith and happiness that anybody can relate to. It is a positive change from the super human characters and loud dialogues that we see commonly in Malayalam movies these days. The cast have given their best. The lead pair gives a wonderful performance, the debutant Pritviraj as Manu and especially Navya as the innocent and lively Balamani is excellent. Revathy and Kaviyoor Ponnamma as the mother and the grandmother, Jagathy Sreekumar as the fake 'sanyasi', Innocent, Siddique and Kalaranjini have done justice to their roles. Music is easy on the ears and cinematography is credible.

Azhagiya Theeyae
Starring: Navya Nair, Prasanna, Prakash Raj ... see all
Director: Radha Mohan
Plot: Azhagiya Theeye is a South Indian Tamil film released in 2004 . Nice songs, especially the song " Vilikanil aruginil vaanam " was a chartbuster for 8 weeks.

Azhagiya Theeyae will be a refreshing experience for filmgoers who yearn for quality fare. Unlike the regular commercial stuff, the movie has excellent characterisation sans any glamour.

The film produced by actor Prakash Raj is about four wannabe (film) technicians, who live together hoping to make it big one day in Tamil filmdom. Five Star-fame Prasanna, one of the four, is approached by Navya Nair to break her proposed marriage with an NRI, played by Prakash Raj. She is forced by her father 'Pyramid' Natarajan to marry. However, thanks to Prasanna, who tells Prakash Raj that he is in love with heroine, the marriage is halted.

Surprisingly, Prakash Raj comes out with a plan to get the 'lover couple' united and arranges for their wedding. Prasanna is forced to marry her and this results in Navya being driven out of her house. How the couple start liking each other after a series of incidents forms the rest of the story.

Director Radha Mohan makes an impressive debut with his story, screenplay and direction. He has given his best without any huge sets, needless double meaning dialogues or songs shot in foreign locations. Prasanna seems to have improved his acting skills. His subtle dialogue delivery combined with a creditable performance from Navya Nair (her maiden Tamil venture) needs mention. M S Baskar, who plays a houseowner, Annachi, walks away with applause for his humour, while actress Ramba and actor Abbas appear for a song.

Ramesh Vinayakam's musical score set to Kavivarman's lyrics and Kasi Viswanathan's skillful editing add strength to the film. Prakash Raj deserves a pat for making a sensible movie.
