Gopika, the charming girl from kerala, is one of the successful heroines in the south Indian Film Industry. Gopika says she was never interested in acting. After completing her 12th standard from St. Raphel School in Ollur, she did her sociology from Calicut University . A win in a beauty contest in Thrissur, followed by a jewellery advertisement, got her a film offer. Famous Malayalam director Thulasi Das gave her a chance in his movie 'Pranayamanithooval' (2002). The film bombed but she got recognition in the film industry.

Her second film, '4 The people' (2004), was a massive hit in Kerala. The song 'Lejjavathiye' from that movie granted her more publicity. Dubbed versions did well in the other South Indian languages. Renowned Tamil director Cheran happened to see her stills from '4 The people' and she was chosen as one of the heroines in his film 'Autograph' (2004). It was one of the biggest Tamil hits of 2004. Her next movie in Tamil was '4 students' (2004). She looked ravishing in 'Kana Kandein' (2005), opposite Srikanth. Simbu was her pair in the movie 'Totti Jaya'(2005) which also was a hit.

Other noted Malayalam movies to her credit include Finger Print (2005), Chanthupottu (2005), Nerariyan CBI (2005), The Tiger (2005), Pachakuthira (2006), Keerthi Chakra (2006), The Don (2006) and Pothan Vava (2006). She has also acted in Kannada and Telugu films.

She has learned the art of balancing her career in multiple languages. Now the charming young lass has her career booming in all the South Indian languages.

Interview with Gopika

Gopika, the young actress from Kerala, made it big in Tamil due to the huge success of Cheran’s Autograph. Back home her Malayalam film 4 the People’s success gave her the much needed break. Fortunately, for her, two hit films were remade in Telugu and those too become hits. She has arrived in all the South Indian languages. Gopika speaks to Galatta.com editor in an exclusive interview.

One film old! You have become so popular! Comment Gopika
It’s all God’s gift! I never expected this. The offer which I got in my first Tamil film itself was too good. Thanks to Cheran sir! Cheran sir came to Allepey for location hunt for his film Autograph. He was looking out for a new ‘mallu’ girl for that particular character. Production executive Kabir showed my photos among other 5 girls. He selected me and assured that this role would be a talked about which has come true today. I was made to dub my own voice after so much of coaxing because it was Malayalee girl's role.

You appeared so goodie...goodie in your first film! From the promos of your next film Kanaa Kanden, it appears you have taken to glamour!
No way would I do very glamourous role. In KK, it goes well with the story. I think you are talking about a particular song picturised on me and hero Srikanth. It’s a situational song. Actually in the original context the song is sung by the newly married in the bedroom. Since we felt it would not suit me, the director KV Anand changed it to outdoor duet. He also promised that he would take it in a subtle way. I took him for confidence. But I have not even worn any revealing dresses in that song.

Though you are a Malayalee, Gopika looks perfect Telugu girl was the general feel of audience who watched Naa Autograph. How do you feel about it?
I was elated and it was because of the powerful character. Also it was a remake, and I was very comfortable. The success in Tamil gave confidence in Telugu.

Heard your younger sister is also being launched in Tamil!Gopika
My sister Gliny is getting lot of offers. She has just completed her plus2. Seriously there are no plans to launch my little sister in films.

Have you changed after becoming a top actress?
First of all I don’t consider myself as a top actress. My entering film is only accidental. I do not believe in these ‘number games’. So I do not really crave to reach to top. I will do my work and leave the rest to God!

What are your future commitments?
My next release would be Kanaa Kanden where I play a serious role as wife of Srikanth, Thotti Jaya with Simbhu where I am a college student. I am looking forward a lot from to Ponniyin Selvan, where I am teamed up with Ravi Krishna because for the first time I am trying out comedy in this film.

Gopika to get married on July 17th!

The beautiful actress Gopika is going to get married to an Indian doctor Dr. Akilesh, who is based in Ireland, on July 17th in Kerala. Gopika acted in many Tamil films including ‘Autograph’, ‘Kanaa Kandein’, ‘Emmagan’, ‘Thotti Jaya’, ‘Veerappu’ and ‘Vellithirai’. Earlier the actress stated that she would like to do films for some more time before she could get married. The sources say that Gopika has decided to get married because she has younger sister who has completed her studies and is preparing to get married too. The actress says that she is very happy and says that she will move to Ireland with her husband after marriage. The actress will not act anymore after marriage. She has acted in 35 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.


Gopika flies to Australia for Vellithirai!

Gopika and Prithviraj will be going to Australia in the month of November to shoot the songs for the film 'Vellithirai', which is a Tamil remake of 'Udayananu Tharam'. The film is produced by Prakash Raj in the direction of Viji, who has worked as a script writer for many films. Prithviraj has fixed a position for himself in Tamil cinema by giving hit films such as 'Mozhi' and 'Sathum Podaathay'. Prakash Raj plays a prominent role in the movie Vidyasagar is scoring music for the movie.


Award for Gopika in US

The Malayalee Association in US honored actress Gopika as the Best Women Film Personality in the movie industry. She was given away with the Padmini Ramachandran award. It seems that the association has made the award in the honor of Late Padmini Ramachandran who had been an active member in the association. Gopika has done many movies in the Tamil and Malayalam industry and some of them in the Telugu and Kannada movies.

Em Magan running successfully

Em Magan was the recently released movie for Gopika with Bharath doing the lead role in the movie. The movie is still running successfully and has completed 100 days of run. The movie emphasized on the importance of family relationships and thus the movie attracted a lot of family audiences to the theatre. Thirumurugan directed the movie for Thiyagarajan for Sathyajothi. The director who had already directed a television serial named Metti Oli used the same crew for the movie. The movie starred Nasser, Vadivelu and Saranya in supporting roles.

Gopika's Latest Project

Director Padmakumar signed Meera Jasmine for his next movie. The young hero Prithvi Raj plays the role of hero in the movie. But as Meera was busy down south, with numerous offers from Telugu and Tamil industry, she moved out of this project. Director Padmakumar immediately booked Gopika for the female lead role. This is the first movie in which Gopika and Prithiv are teaming together.

The beautiful Malluwood actress Gopika is planning to enter wedlock this year. Gopika has made her intensions clear in an interview that if everything goes as per the plans then there are chances that she would get married this August-September. She acted in many Tamil and Malayalam films. Gopika has not committed any new films in Malayalam or in Tamil. The actress from an Orthodox Catholic family is busy in the lookout for a suitable groom.


Gopika in Mulla

Gopika with join hands with Dileep in the movie named Mulla in the Malayalam movie industry. The movie is to be produced by R Sunderaj and Sagar Sherif and directed by Lal Jose. The music tunes for the movie will be composed by Vidyasagar and camera is to be handled by Thiru. There are plans to release the movie for Ramzan. The movie shooting will start in Palakkad on July 15th.

But things are not good for Gopika in the Kollywood industry. She has only one Tamil movie named "Ashokamitran" in her kitty. In this movie she teams up with Dhanush.


Gopika’s Malayalam ventures

Gopika is a famous actress of both Malayalam and Tamil industry. She has earned a very good name in Malayalam industry and has secured a place in the hearts of the audiences. She has acted with top heroes like Mammooty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi, but never as their ladylove. In Suresh Gopi’s Janmam and Smart City, she has played the character of a sister. In Mohanlal’s Keerthi Chakra, she appears for one or two scenes and she has played the character of Jeeva’s wife.

In Mammootty’s Pothen Vava, she has played the character of an advocate and here also she has no scenes of romance with Mammootty.
